Join k.d. lang and Tools for Peace at Grace Cathedral (San Francisco, Sept 21-27)
Grace Cathedral and Tools For Peace, a Tibetan-based non-profit, will be hosting an incredible week-long special event, the Mandala Project, whose mission is to provide practical methods to cultivate compassion, peace, and well-being.
When:
Sept. 21 – 25, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. – Bay Area students from Aim High, Northern Light School, and Envision School will spend five afternoons creating a Community Sand Mandala in the cathedral, alongside a traditional Sand Mandala created by Tibetan Lamas. Mandalas are ancient Tibetan art forms symbolically representing a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective. (Students present 4-6 p.m. Only.)
Sept. 26, 6 p.m. – This week-long creative collaboration culminates in a Gala celebration that includes a champagne reception, an introduction of the project by student participants, a specially chosen short performance by the astonishing multi-Grammy Award-winner k.d. lang, a simple, yet elegant dinner, with dessert by influential chef Alice Waters, and a live auction—event proceeds to benefit Grace Cathedral and Tools for Peace.
Sept. 27, 11 a.m. – There will be a dissolution ceremony for the mandalas performed directly following the 11 a.m. Choral Eucharist. Where: Nave (main sanctuary), Grace Cathedral, 1100 California St., San Francisco
Cost:
