NEW video/update: Brit Hume addresses Christianity-versus-Buddhism flap on The O’Reilly Factor; O’Reilly doesn’t think Buddhism was denigrated; Pat Buchanan thinks otherwise

Contact with a FOX publicist made earlier this evening confirmed that Brit Hume had now spoken on FOX’s The O’Reilly Factor about his recent comment regarding Tiger Woods, Christianity, and what Hume seems to see as an inferiority in Buddhism. A Shambhala SunSpace interview request is pending.

Here’s the video:

Note the question at the 2:50 mark to learn which faith O’Reilly thinks is the one being denigrated here.

Pat Buchanan, on the other hand, has more or less conceded that Buddhism was in fact being denigrated, but seems to think that that’s okay because “there are not a lot of Buddhists watching FOX.” (TPM has a nice wrap-up.)

And if you’ve missed all the discussion since we posted this story in the early afternoon on Sunday, see here. People sure have had a lot to say about this story.

I think it's clear Brit would be a more compassionate, happier, more peaceful person if he just converted to Buddhism.

Hume, you are a jack-ass. ABC got rid of you… now FOX, wow! You should of retired, then you wouldn't have to dye your hair black and could enjoy reading the book, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoch (1994) -and get LAID yourself. What a loser.
I used to watch fox and love it, now I have my doubts… FOX-get rid of HUME before you lose more viewers and the LIGHTS go out for good!

When I was gowing up and I would get frustrated by peoples' actions or comments, my grandmother would remind that "You can't reason with idiots." From my perspective Brit Hume and Bill O'Reilly are idiots, in the truest sense of the word, as they are blinded by their need for ratings and audience share. As well, they believe their own shit, whiche is a dangerous postion to be in behind a microphone. My suggestion would be to breath in and out, focus on something important and worthwhile. Failing that, put on a good Beethoven symphony and get into some good old "sturm und drang". #3 is a goody. Works for me everytime.

It is difficult for all of us, whether we are Buddhist or Christian, Brit Hume or the Dalai Lama -to grasp the endless sublties of spiritual aggression. Granted, Mr. Hume's condescending cluelessness were painfully glaring in his remarks – no subltey there. But, the approach we may want to take toward Mr. Hume's arrogance is to draw from one of his religion's more helpful parables: "Let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone."

Why does Brit Hume think it's such a great idea to promote Christianity as the go-to religion for serial philanderers???

Man, I hope Shambhala gets that interview!!! I mean, seriously, how can Brit refuse now??

Thanks, Cornelius. The offer to Mr. Hume stands. No word back as of this time.

I would agree with you, except for one notable fact. These particular idiots have a very large, very visible soapbox from which they can present their misinformation as fact. The choir they are preaching to is rather large (by any account), many of whom take the words of these idiots as Gospel (which is appropraite as the Christian Gospels are primarily stories told about events that may or may not have happened many years before they were written). Thus, there is a rather large group of people who swallow the misinformation, twisted information spewed by these idiots without question or investigation. And all of those good (but mislead) people have the same number of votes that you and I do.

God bless you, Brit for standing up for what you believe in. You are not ashamed of the Gospel.

ONE THING THE BUDDAHISTS KNOW IS HOW TO FEED MONEY TO AL GORE IN LA.
A LOT OF GOOD IT DID THEM. AL STILL HAS THEIR DOUGH. SO MUCH FOR CHRISTIANS.

Ahh – just forgive them – they're only doing what's in their nature. It's like being upset that water can't run uphill. Better to pray they see value in learning about something prior to judgment..

Isn't it interesting. A Christian meets God the Creator, Jesus Christ, and knows it. Then tries to communicate spiritual truth to an unbeliever, and he is labled an idiot. Because you can't see what he sees. Jesus said, "If they hated me, they will hate you too. A servant is not above his master." Go to goforitministries.com. Listen to Bill Weise talk about his 23 minutes in hell. Wake up. This life is over all too fast. And you, as a created being, will never die. You just enter a new dimension of life. The idiot you call him, Bret Hume, may have spoken the one word that will reach Tiger Woods.
