Originally published in eight lovingly-made hardcover books, an anime film version of manga master Osama Tezuka’s Buddha is now in production. For those who haven’t read it, possibly thinking that graphic novels are kid stuff: this is one serious work of art. Yes, Tezuka’s biography of the Awakened One plays fast and loose with the facts — the author even brings in several of his own original characters, introduced in previous works — but the overall effect is alternately wild and moving, and always dramatic.
According to Anime News Network, the film is planned for a 2010 release. According to me, that’s way too long. This should definitely be one to see.

I've used that picture as an avatar so long it was a little shocking to see it appear in Google Reader.
Perfect — when I wrote the post, I thought to myself, how'm I gonna get Charlie Stevenson's attention today? ;)
